Visual and Performing Arts

Art Exploration II: This class exposes students to the wonderful world of art! Using Elements of Art and Principals of Design as their basis, students will create a variety of art pieces with many different art media such as: paint, markers, ink, crayons, plaster, fabric, pen and much more. Students who love art and want to have fun will love this class! 

 AMERICAN ARTS & CRAFTS/DRAWING TECHNIQUES 7th & 8th graders - Yearlong 

This class is designed to teach the students about the traditional Arts and Crafts of the American Culture. You will become exposed to and become familiar with the art of quilting, crocheting, weaving, embroidery, quilt construction, Basketry, wood-burning, silk painting, along with several other art forms from American History. The second half of the year the class switches over to Drawing Techniques. This class is designed to familiarize your child with the techniques and skills used in creating wonderful drawings! Students will explore the use of a variety of drawing tools such as graphite pencils, charcoal, pastels, markers, pen and ink. Different shading techniques of blending, hatching, cross-hatching and stippling will be taught. Still Life, Contour, and perspective drawing will also be explored. Students will suddenly realize that drawing can be learned through simple decision-making skills and implementing critical thinking and evaluation processes. 

DRAMA/CHOIR PERFORMING ARTS CLASS 7th & 8th graders – Yearlong that alternates on an A-B daily schedule 

Drama: exposes the student to the intriguing world of Theater. Drama can be a worthwhile and satisfying activity that instills skills that you will use for your whole entire life! Students will study the parts of a stage, script content, pantomime, body movement, projection and voice techniques, communication devices, improvisation, and stagecraft techniques. Every artist has a medium of expression. The painter has their oils, the musician has his instrument, and the actor has “him/herself” to communicate an idea to its viewers. 

Choir: This class focuses the student’s learning on teaching the necessary skills to sing. Anyone is encouraged to join this class. The class begins with the basics of using your voice and the learning of a variety of singing techniques. Students will learn an array of songs from beginner to advanced levels. Cooperative group and solo work are fostered in each of the classes. Both the drama and choir classes are performance classes and students will have several opportunities to perform in a public forum such as the school concerts, school assemblies, CMEA choir festival, and the 8th grade promotion ceremony. 

BAND - 7th & 8th graders - Yearlong 

In this course, students develop skills to play woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. Students will learn to read music, take part in performances, refine musicianship skills, and be an asset to the band.
